“Nothing brings people together like food.”
SLaM’s Keeping Well South East London presents
THE GREAT JOLLOF-OFF
Apply today for your chance to win and be crowned the Queen or King of Keeping Well in Southeast London (KWSEL) Jollof-Off.
Food glorious food! There’s nothing that brings people together like food, said someone somewhere at some point and they were right! During the last two years, it’s not been easy, but it’s very likely that the one thing that brought people together would have been food – either eating together or talking about it.
KWSEL is a partnership which has brought together support that is available to all staff delivering health and social care services across SEL. The aim is to bring together the workforce from across Social Care and the NHS, to celebrate and support each other and what better way than a cooking event competition!
After a year since we launched we will be holding a Jollof Rice cooking competition.
With a large African representation in Southeast London, we have chosen Jollof Rice, as it’s one of the most recognised dishes from the African continent. Jollof rice is a dish that can bring a fiery feud of passion but yet unite people. That’s because determining who makes the best Jollof is an ongoing matter of local pride and contention.
Jollof rice is to West Africa what paella is to Spain, risotto to Italy, biriyani to India and fried rice to China.
Many West African countries have at least one variation of Jollof rice, and it can both divide and unite the region. It is a dish that is ever present at parties, in households, not just a staple but a culinary treasure. All you have to do is just whisper the word “Jollof” in West Africa and you could easily start a fiery feud of passion. That’s because determining who makes the best Jollof is an ongoing matter of local pride and contention.
Jollof rice is now truly global, and everyone believes their Jollof is the best, just enter and put yourself to the test.
Apply here by Monday April 13th.
