Update to the COVID-19 Supplement
This afternoon, the COVID-19 Supplement was updated with a few changes, one of which clarifies the guidance on symptoms as I previously circulated. There is now a helpful change log at the start of the document. It details the following:
- Clarification that sessional use of masks applies only to communal care settings
- Updated guidance on symptoms (more on this below)
- Updated list of AGPs
- Clarification that when undertaking an AGP on a person who is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 or another infection spread by airborne or droplet route, a full-face visor (which covers the eyes, nose and mouth area) is needed, if the FFP3 mask is not fluid resistant
- Added a new section on testing, PPE and responding to test results for care workers living with individuals they provide care and/or support to
- Updated visiting section to clarify that all visitors are encouraged to wear a face covering not just those providing personal care
- Updated visiting section to clarify that children under the age of 11 who are visiting a care home may choose whether to wear face coverings
The guidance on symptoms now explicitly states that (emphasis mine):
‘Social care staff who have symptoms of a respiratory infection and who have a high temperature, or social care staff who have symptoms of a respiratory infection and do not feel well enough to attend work should take a lateral flow test as soon as they feel unwell (day 0). They should not go to work, and if at work, should leave as soon as possible. Staff with respiratory symptoms who feel well enough to work and do not have a temperature, do not need to take a symptomatic test and can continue working.’
It also lists an expanded set of symptoms.
