At the end of last week, the government published a consultation on its proposed operational guidance to implement a lifetime cap on care costs. Three documents have been published:
- An overview of the consultation on the operational guidance and wider reform agenda
- Supporting local preparation: draft guidance
- The draft operational guidance
They set out how an individual progresses towards the £86,000 cap which comes into force from October 2023 and how LAs record this. The purpose of the consultation is to seek views on the statutory guidance, and to help inform LAs for its implementation. However, it is also of interest to social care providers, who will need to understand the new system and the role they will play in it.
