Update on Adult Social care workforce funding for learning and development

Following my letter at the end of July, addressing changes to our workforce reform programme, I am pleased to be able to share with you that today we have published guidance on GOV.UK for the new Learning and Development Support Scheme.

The Learning and Development Support Scheme will have a new digital online claims service that will allow adult social care employers to claim funding for certain training courses and qualifications on behalf of eligible care staff. Funding will be available for eligible courses and qualifications that have been both paid for and started between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 (inclusive).

The new guidance document provides details about the funding, including what learning and development is eligible for reimbursement. Information about funding for the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism will follow.

In order to manage the roll-out sensibly, for the first few months access to the service will be via invite from the NHS Business Services Authority. To receive an invitation and be onboarded on to the new system employers can complete an expression of interest form.

If you have questions about the Learning and Development Support Scheme please get in touch with the team by emailing ascreimbursement@dhsc.gov.uk

We look forward to continuing to work with you as the Department develops its long-term plan for the adult social care workforce.

I would be grateful if you could share this letter with your member organisations and welcome any support you can provide to help us raise awareness of this funding route within the sector. We are keen to ensure that the fund is accessed widely.

Yours sincerely
